SJ Wilkes Group is a disability advocacy and training organization dedicated to educating businesses, empowering communities, and advancing accessibility for people with disabilities. Founded by Sharonda Johnson-Wilkes, a respected advocate, speaker, and leader with over 30 years of disability experience, the organization provides professional training, community education, and inclusion-focused services for corporations, healthcare providers, real estate teams, and local businesses.
Our mission is simple:
To build communities where people with disabilities are respected, supported, and served with dignity.

We are an advocacy-driven organization created from lived experience, professional expertise, and a deep passion for ensuring that individuals with disabilities — especially those who are 100% dependent on wheelchairs for mobility — receive the respect, access, and inclusion they deserve.
Founded in Maryland and rooted in community engagement, SJ Wilkes Group helps organizations improve accessibility, strengthen customer service, and create informed, inclusive environments.
SJ Wilkes Group provides a range of educational, non-clinical services, including:
Helping employees interact respectfully and confidently with customers who use wheelchairs or mobility aids.
Educating teams on ADA awareness, respectful communication, and mobility considerations.
Annual partnerships that integrate disability awareness into hiring, onboarding, and DEI programs.
Teaching non-clinical etiquette, boundaries, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
Providing real-world guidance on accessibility, communication, and safety for wheelchair users.
Educational workshops for individuals, families, real estate professionals, and community groups.
Helping the community understand accessibility needs, housing barriers, and mobility challenges.
Everything we offer is grounded in lived experience — real-world knowledge businesses can’t get anywhere else.
Sharonda Johnson-Wilkes is a disability advocate, speaker, and community leader with more than 30 years of experience supporting individuals with disabilities. As a wheelchair user herself, she brings authentic, firsthand knowledge of accessibility challenges and systemic barriers faced by people with mobility limitations.
Sharonda has spent almost 15 years working for the federal government, where she developed a deep understanding of policy, customer service, and community needs. She is also the founder of the SJ Wilkes Foundation, which focuses on accessible housing, community support, and disability-centered initiatives.
Her mission is personal:
To change the way businesses, agencies, and communities view and interact with people with disabilities — through education, advocacy, and purpose-driven leadership.
To be a national leader in disability education and inclusion, building safer, stronger, and more accessible communities for all.
